Against the grain.
On purpose.
Because fitting in is overrated.
There’s a lot of sameness out there. Same fonts. Same websites. Same polished brands that could belong to absolutely anyone.
We’d rather make something with a pulse.
Black Sheep Studio was born from the belief that good design doesn’t have to follow the herd. It just has to be thoughtful, useful, and unmistakably yours.
Craft > crap.
Always.
We're a two-person creative studio making thoughtful, slightly unexpected work for small businesses that care deeply about what they do and the communities they’re building.
What can we help with?
A little bit of strategy.
A little bit of design.
A lot of thinking.
-
Figuring out what you're trying to say before we worry about how pretty it looks.
-
Making websites and digital products easier to understand, navigate, and actually enjoy using.
-
Looking at the whole customer experience—not just the shiny bits—to find what's getting in the way.
-
Clean, thoughtful interfaces with enough personality to remind people there are humans on the other side.
-
Making your business look like your business. Strategy, identity, visual systems, the whole shebang.
-
Custom visual work for brands that want a little more personality and a little less stock-photo energy.
-
Campaigns, content, and creative direction designed to get your people to stop scrolling for half a second.
-
The flock.
Just two friends who work together, think together, and make things together.
It’s a small studio on purpose.
Small means nimble.
Small means personal.
Small means we actually give a damn.
Lilly King
Founder + Professional Overthinker
Lilly is a marketer-turned-UX designer, creative strategist, and professional untangler of messy problems. She loves asking too many questions, finding the thread, and turning complicated things into something that just makes sense.
She founded Black Sheep Studio because she believes small businesses deserve big-thought design—without all the big-agency nonsense.
Usually: Rearranging sticky notes, exploring the city with a SLR camera in hand, or having a Very Strong Opinion™ about a design.
Annie Grosscup
Designer + Idea Machine
Annie is a former art teacher, current bookseller, and lifelong artist. She brings a little bit of everything to Black Sheep: a love of storytelling, an eye for visual details, and a knack for making ideas feel approachable.
After teaching and now spending her days surrounded by books, she knows a thing or two about helping people connect with ideas. She brings that same instinct for curiosity and connection to her work at Black Sheep Studio.
Usually: Recommending a book, creating something with her hands, or asking, “Okay, but what if we tried this?”
Let’s make something weirdly good.
We want the good.
The baaa-d.
Even the ugly.
Don’t be sheepish.
Got a half-baked idea? A website that's driving you nuts? A brand that's lost its spark?
